Porangahau
Golf Links ; It
comprises of a 9 hole golf course, with a delightful "19th
hole" for you to sit and discuss your game. Golf clubs
and balls can be hired from the Golf club for very reasonable
prices.
Some
of the best diving in New Zealand can be found just of the coast of
Porangahau.
There
is almost always a wave to surf on and depending on the spot you
pick the surf can be mild, or full on. No rocks to climb over and no
huge crowds to contend with! Just you and mother nature at her
finest. The beach is also ideal for body boaders and
beginners.
You
can either surfcast from the main beach.
There
is an ideal water skiing river only a 10 minute walk from the
resort. You can have endless fun water skiing to your hearts
content. The river is very safe, with low banks and soft mud
underfoot.
There
is nothing like a romantic walk along the beach on a hot summers
day. The beach is very flat and wide so there is plenty of
room to move. Walk down to the breakers at the far South
point, or head towards the river mouth. (It's a decent walk
though!)
Only
a few kilomatres inland, back in the township of Porangahau you will
find three seldom used tennis courts. You are almost guaranteed to
be able to spend all the time you like there.
Just
as it is a safe beach for body boarding, so too is it a safe beach
for swimming. With a sand bar only a few metres out to sea, it
creates the effect of a great wave beach with a sandy bottom, and
you don't have to track out to sea miles before it gets deep.
